Driving Sustainability in Retail Supply Chains: A Panel Discussion
WHEN: Tuesday, May 29th, 6:30-8:30PM
WHAT: Representatives from the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and Efficiency Exchange (EEx) will discuss how U.S.-based retailers and their international manufacturing partners are developing sustainable supply chains. With China as the world's largest consumer of energy, and 30% of it going towards manufacturing exported goods for global retailers, there is significant opportunity for cost, energy, and carbon reduction. Learn how retail companies are working with their suppliers to foster more sustainable manufacturing, and how EEx’s innovative technology platform helps factories and brands align their unique economic interests towards operating more efficiently.
Efficiency Exchange spearheaded a study on efforts to build sustainable retail supply chains in China; their report on barriers and solutions, released in Feb. 2012, is available here.

PANELISTS:
Adam Siegel, Retail Industry Leaders Association (@RILA_Adam)
As Vice President of Sustainability & Retail Operations, Adam Siegel leads RILA’s sustainability offerings, directing both RILA’s Retail Sustainability Initiative (RSI) and the Retail Sustainability Conference. An engineer with an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, Siegel has consulted for numerous companies including Staples, IBM, and Seventh Generation, as well as for leaders in the transportation and energy sectors. He has experience with the Environmental Defense Fund’s Corporate Partnerships Program, where he worked with the private equity firm KKR and their portfolio companies.
Taryn Sullivan, Efficiency Exchange (@tarynsullivan)
With extensive experience in worldwide sourcing and manufacturing, and a long history of conducting day-to-day business in Mandarin Chinese, Sullivan has first-hand knowledge of how factories work, think, and operate. In 2009, she founded Efficiency Exchange (EEx) to enable overseas factories to reduce energy consumption, costs, and emissions. Today, EEx is looking to help a number of U.S. and European retailers achieve a wide range of diverse, ambitious supply chain sustainability goals through the use of modern web technology. Sullivan’s career has included development and sourcing for several large U.S. retailers, including the Home Shopping Network, Pacific Trade International, and Restoration Hardware. As a result, she had the opportunity to travel across much of the developing world – and to factories in China, India, Vietnam, Turkey, and Brazil – which provided her with the experience and inspiration that led to the founding of EEx.
